Toddler Recliner–Salvation Army treasure find!

I always talk about how I find treasures in the most unlikely places. And I never mention that at times, I am a little scared of some of the things I find junking. LOL. And by scared I mean, break out in hives maybe…quit breathing…freak out. Ha ha ha ha…okay so maybe not that bad! But sometimes…there’s some gnarly stuff in thrift stores.

My Mom spotted this little toddler recliner the other day at our local Salvation Army, and she totally fell in love. I on the other hand, wasn’t too convinced. It just seemed yuck-a-delick to me. But I’m glad she didn’t let me talk her out of getting it. Jaxon loves it.

I did scrub-a-dub-dub it for awhile in the bath tub. With steaming hot water and laundry detergent. You know…to kill any weird heebie jeebie germs.☺

This picture doesn’t really show how dirty it really was. Hence…my heebie jeebies.
Once I scrubbed it and let it dry…it was really  perfect. And it rocks too!
011
Jaxon thinks it’s perfect for him and his stinker-pot chihuahua and sidekick – Lola.

012
He likes to do crazy poses when I pull out the camera.

015
He even made Lola do a funny pose.
Those two – they are always getting in trouble or being silly together!

I thought I was going to immediately try to re-cover the recliner, but right now it’s okay the way it is. It matches the colors in Jaxon’s room. If I get the urge, I might jazz it up a bit. We don’t exactly have Noah’s Ark decorations anywhere…but for now it works!
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I’ve started an Operation Organize Everything Mission before I go to graduate school. LOL. I cleaned out my freezer, fridge and pantry today! Oh my word! I’m already so much happier with how it looks.
Here’s a little picture teaser…I used super cheap items for the Dollar Tree to transform my freezer and some other areas in my kitchen. It was an easy and cheap transformation that I think is going to make a HUGE difference in the amount of food we DO NOT WASTE and in our overall eating habits! Stay tuned for those updates!017
Happy WEDNESDAY!

Thrifty booty & migraines

This past week was quite a doozy. I took on a big project that I never anticipated would be so much work!
It was thrilling..stressful and fun…and if I hadn’t had a cluster of migraine attacks I might have enjoyed it more. Uugghh try Modge Podging when you can only see out of one eye! Lol!
I  also learned a huge lesson…projects that big are a tad too much when you have toddler and a small house! Oh my! Jaxon a.k.a. Taz had a field day shredding pink crepe paper and trying to grab limes to throw at his dogs!!
Here’s a little teaser pic from the project:

{Thank you so much Alayna for hiring me to do this project for you!!}

I did really score some great thrifty junkin’ booty this week though. I never win contests…and I obviously have never won the lottery…but this week I really scored with some MAJOR finds!
Say hello to my little friend….
06-27-2010 011
Seriously how cute is she?
06-27-2010 016
I won this little vintage steel fan on Ebay for…drumroll please…
99 cents! And a few more clams for shipping! I was ecstatic! And you know what else? She works! Although I can see that she’s not exactly child-proof so I don’t think we will have her cranking any time soon!
My next score was this BEAUTY of a desk I found on Craigslist…for $20. {And can I just add a note here…my husband is so great…I texted him a pic and said “by the way can you pick this up on your way home after work??” And you know what…he never even flinched! He always runs all over picking up all of my crazy finds! He’s so wonderful!}
And isn’t she sweet???
06-27-2010 017
She’s definitely getting a coat of white paint soon!
06-27-2010 020
She has great details such as those pretty little legs…and sliding doors with chicken wire mesh. My heart pitter-patters every time I see her!
Then…here’s the kicker my friends. Look at this GORGEOUS girl I found…so very sad…BY THE DUMPSTER!!
picd from phone 06-27 062
My Mom and I had been thrifting for some project supplies and drove behind the store to throw our melted drinks away. Lo’ and behold…there she was!
My Mom…who is also sooo great for dragging me and Taz around with this BIG MAMMA in the bed of her truck…shopping all over town! We were quite a sight! It was pretty funny! She rode great…and sat patiently in the Wal-Mart, Dollar Tree and Hobby Lobby parking lots…waiting to go to her NEW HOME!
picd from phone 06-27 063
Here she is…adjusting nicely to her new place!

I’ve already shuffled her around to see where she fits best. She is in great condition. I really think she’s more comfortable than my NEW couch and love seat. {I love how every picture I take of her...there's a little hint of Jax...notice the toys he's so graciously left on her! He thinks she's a new climbing toy of course!!}

The only spots are a slight water damage spot on very top and back. I really think I can steam out the spots. {Because I am a germa-phobic freak-azoid, I soaked her in Lysol as soon as I got her home.} As of right now I am digging her material…so I won’t be slip covering her anytime soon!
Sooo….a little lesson learned this week…you can find treasures behind consignment and thrift stores! Check the dumpsters…if you aren’t SKEEERED! Ha ha!

Old Sorehead Trades Days~

One of the benefits of living in this dusty, windy and dry little West Texas town is the eventful craft fair and extravaganza that is held three times throughout the year known as “Old Sorehead Trades Days.” You will see this billboard if you happen by I-20 ….
welcome-sign
** Yes people the rumors are true….in Texas we are ALL ABOUT our football. 1997 State Champions by-golly…and don’t forget it!! Ha ha!!
This is the first time we were able to go check out the events downtown since Jaxon was born. Last year he was a newborn and we just weren’t in the mood to go “junking.”  Imagine that. This time though he was older, we had the hang of this “parenting” thing and we had a wagon!!

There are many…many…many booths. Left, right, up, down, west, east, north and south. In buildings, down streets and under covered pavilions. Booths…every where.

You can find toys, bows, tu-tus, shower heads, knives, fishing rods, lamps, jacuzzis, pets, popcorn and just about anything you can imagine. This year I saw a booth with Egyptian cotton 1200-count sheets – fancy shmancy!
This is one of my all time favorite booths…this girl has MAD SKILLS! Every year she has new ideas and I can’t get enough! I just wish it matched my decor at home!

Eathan and I have been waiting to scope this joint out. We take Jaxon walking by this building in the evenings and saw a few objects in the windows and knew it would be GROOVY!

There were tons of dusty-treasures!

Jax was such a trooper. And quite the little socializer….
Phone pics 06-13-2010 136
Most of the time he kicked back and took in the scenery….gosh I love those little piggies!
Phone pics 06-13-2010 129
I thought this booth had some great chippy-paint items and a lot of cute vintage junk. I loved the red chairs…but $25 a piece was a tad high for my junkin'-budget.

These signs were ok…for some reason oil field signs are all the rage in Texas…and this man (bless-his-cotton-socks) was crazy-proud of them too! He wanted a WHOPPING $125 for them. Now for realzzzz…for an oil field sign???? We all have our individual tastes I guess. If you have relatives who work in the oil field (and who doesn’t in West Texas???) then you might be lucky enough to score them for F.R.E.E. Although a few of his collections had bullet holes…but you could add those too if you wanted! Te-he!Phone pics 06-13-2010 139
Now these ladies had some FABULOSO-NEATO ideas. Seriously…in all my craft fair-junking-booth-browsin’ days…I have never seen anything quite like these….
Phone pics 06-13-2010 140
They are little rock creatures! Caterpillars, turtles, ants etc. My MIL bought this little guy for her yard….too cute and funny!
Phone pics 06-13-2010 157
I guess I was in a chair mood…I took a lot of chair pics for some reason….

And of course with all the crafty-junkin’ goodness of an event like this…is the F.O.O.D. There go my boys…down the greasy, sugary, crunchy, sweet trail of fair food! I have friends who look forward to eating all three daily meals from these booths…ha ha ha…another perk of having a local fair in your hometown.

I thought the lemonade stand was a trip and the name of this wagon…The Holy Grille…lol. Too funny!
Phone pics 06-13-2010 146
I’ve been planning to get one of these DADBURN Sarsaparilla drinks and I keep forgetting! You even get a nifty tin mug! Sheeesh. Maybe next time!!!
This is where we finally decided to get some grub…and oh my gravy can these fellas cook some BBQ! Melt in your mouth BBQ sandwiches!
Phone pics 06-13-2010 147
And there’s fun activities for kids too!
Rock climbing, bouncy-jumpy things, Thomas the Train rides and pony rides. Jaxon is too little for a while for any of those but he got a kick out of watching the “big” kids play.

The funny thing about having pictures of my son at “Trades Days” is that I have pictures of myself and my BFF in high school (freshman year) dolled up and ready to check out the booths. Little did I know that some 15 years later I would be back in this teeny town with my little family and on these same streets with this little love bug. Craziness.
So anywho…after a few hours of browsing or “fingering-the-beads” as my granny used to say…I only ended up buying these….
One Coca-Cola crate/box: $5.00

I think the inside is very neato:

The HUBS surprised me with this cute bag too!
Phone pics 06-13-2010 164
Awww I forgot he could be sweet every-once-in-awhile! We also bought a little airplane push-toy thing but Taz a.k.a. Jaxon played with it no longer than five minutes and had broke the handle and propellers off. It was no longer “safe” or fun so we chunked it.
How was your weekend? Any cool junking finds?
I’ve got some really cutie-patootie projects up my sleeve to reveal this week! And I’ve got some big one’s I’m working on as well..including painting my office desk white. Oh my!!!
